Why should we translate Cochrane Reviews into French? A view from Cameroon
By Lawrence Mbuagbaw & Harriet MacLehose

The Cochrane Collaboration is a leader in the preparation of high-quality systematic reviews, but they are prepared and available mainly in the English language. This alone greatly undermines the potential of Cochrane Reviews as building blocks for decision-making in many low- and middle-income countries, including those in Africa, where evidence about the benefits and harms of healthcare interventions is needed urgently.

This month's Cochrane Reviews cover a diverse range of subjects. Key studies released include:

Enhanced glucose control for preventing and treating diabetic neuropathy

Omega 3 fatty acid for the prevention of cognitive decline and dementia

Long-acting FSH versus daily FSH for women undergoing assisted reproduction

NEW: World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day is held each year on 31 May and is organised by the World Health Organization (WHO). This Special Collection was first published to coincide with World No Tobacco Day 2010, was revised for 2011, and has since been updated for World No Tobacco Day 2012. It highlights a selection of Cochrane Reviews that address tobacco addiction in the general population. Recently updated Cochrane Reviews cover topics including interventions for smoking cessation delivered in the hospital setting, training health professionals in smoking cessation, and nicotine receptor partial agonists (such as varenicline).
