Call for papers: Next generation sequencing studies with relevance to
the understanding of disease mechanisms
The coupling of pathology with massively parallel sequencing studies
provides a unique opportunity to further our understanding of the
pathophysiological and pathogenetic mechanisms of human disease, a
major interest of The Journal of Pathology.
The Journal is now soliciting submissions of primary research based on
massively parallel sequencing taking advantage of novel insights into
the genetic basis of human diseases, including but not restricted to,
the identification of new genotype-phenotype associations and novel
driver mutations, characterisation of patterns of genetic instability,
and on the topic of intra-tumour genetic heterogeneity.

Stem cell biology is very much at the heart of the disease that is
most familiar to histopathologists - cancer. This virtual issue of the
has compiled a series of papers published recently in the Journal of
Pathology dealing with stem cell behaviour in normal human epithelial
tissues, their role in tumour initiation, tumour progression
(including field cancerization) and metastasis, particularly the role
of the microenvironment and epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT).

2012 Annual Review Issue: The Cell Biology of Disease
This 2012 Annual Review Issue of The Journal of Pathology argues
strongly that cell biology, in its many disciplines, underpins the
foundation of our understanding of the mechanisms of disease-the holy
grail of pathology. Our increasing knowledge of the human genome will
not be enough to attain this goal without parallel developments in our
comprehension of the results, at the cellular level, of these genetic
changes. In the end, it is cell biology and cell biologists who will
deliver this mission."
